Come experience a trip back into time and witness a special Native American interpretation of the culturally diverse homelands of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe.  Spend time in our incomparable Ute Mountain Tribal Park with one of our knowledgeable Native American Ute tour guides.  Guides interpret Ute* Indian History, Ute pictographs, geological land formations, and Ancestral Pueblo* petro glyphs, artifacts and dwellings.

     The half-day tours will visit Ancestral Pueblo petro glyphs, scenic lands, Ute pictographs panels, geological land formations and surface sites.  All sites on the half-day tour are within a short walking distance of the gravel road.

     The full-day trips require additional time and effort, including a three-mile walk on unpaved trails and a climb on five ladders to visit four well-preserved canyon cliff dwellings in Lion Canyon

     A round trip drive on gravel and dirt roads from the Tribal Park Visitor's Center is 80 miles for the full day tour and 40 miles for the half-day tour.  Check in time is 8:30 a.m. and departure is a 9:00 a.m.  Tours begin at the Visitor Center/Museum- 20 miles south of Cortez, Colorado at Highway Junction 160/491.

Special Prices are available to school groups only:  
From 1st to 8th grade is $10.00 per student, grades 9th - 12th are $16.00 per student, and college students are $28.00 per student. 
Rates for children within a family are:
Eight and under are $8.00 each and children ages 9-15 years of age
are $13.00 each. 

No senior rates apply.  A half-deposit is required for weekend groups and special tours.  Deposits are only refunded with one week's notice.

Military Discount:  Active Members of the military will be given a 50% discount with proof of military identification.

ESSENTIAL TOUR INFORMATION
Water or food is not available in the Park, but water and soft drinks are available for purchase at the Tribal Park Visitor Center/Museum.  Bring plenty of drinking water, lunch for the all day trip, insect repellant, sun screen, a hat and sturdy hiking shoes.  Have a full tank of gasoline.  NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED.  PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT ALLOWED!  Please inform the tour guide of serious health problems.  Visitors should have their own insurance.  The meeting point for tours is at the Tribal Park Visitor Center at the Junction of highways 160/491, 20 miles south of Cortez.  The Ute mountain Tribal Park may cancel out tours due to weather.  Credit cards, National Park Service's GOLD EAGLE PASSPORTS and other passes are not valid here. 

YOU MUST HAVE A UTE GUIDE TO ENTER THE UTE MOUNTAIN UTE TRIBAL LAND.  WE DO NOT ALLOW SELF-GUIDED TOURS.
The Ute Mountain Tribal Park has the right to close off tour areas for cultural or preservation reasons at anytime.  Ute Mountain Ute Tribe/Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Park and its employess are not liable for illnesses, accidents, theft, and injuries.

*The Ute Mountain Utes are the Weeminuche band of Utes, one of the seven original Ute bands that inhabited the entire state of Colorado.  The Ute Mountain Utes presently reside on their reservation in Southwestern Colorado.
*Ancestral Pueblo, or Anasazi, were people of the Pueblo culture.  These Pueblo people resided in the four corners' areas (Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona) until about 1300 AD.  The Puebloan tribes are presently living in the states of Arizona and New Mexico and are the descendants of the Ancestral Pueblo.

TWELFTH ANNUAL UTE MOUNTAIN TRIBAL PARK OPEN HOUSE
MAY 26, 2012

 

On May 26, 2012, from 8:30AM to 4:30PM, the Ute Mountain Tribal Park will have an Open House starting at the Tribal Park Visitor Center/Museum at Highway Junction 160/491 (formally Highway Junction 160/666), twenty miles South of Cortez, Colorado, and eight miles South of Ute Mountain Casino.

 

The following events are scheduled for May 26, 2012

*Porcupine House Ruin and Ute Pictographs Tour*
These tours begin at 9:10AM to 3:00PM.  The cost of this tour is $29.00 per person.

*Anasazi Sun Calendars in Mancos Canyon and Anasazi Petro glyph tour*
The half day tour begins at 9:00AM to 12:00PM & 1:30PM to 4:30PM. 
The cost of this tour is $29.00 per person.

*Native American flute music 8:30 A.M. to 9:00 A.M.
 (Free of charge)

There will be no charge for transportation.  Each Tribal vehicle van holds up to fifteen people per vehicle.  Transportation is based on a first come first serve basis.  Visitors may provide their own transportation.

Tours  are NOT handicapped accessible.

Children's rates do not apply with this tour special.

*On display at the Tribal Park Visitor Center will be museum exhibits from 8:30am to 3:00pm.
*Free refreshments will be available for visitors.
*Participants will need to dress comfortably and provide their own drinking water and lunch for the tours.

Pool Canyon Nordenskiold Cliff Dwelling Tour   -   July 7, 2012

Inaccessible, Casa Colorado & Casa Blanca House   -  July 21, 2012

The Ute Mountain Tribal Park is offering to the public Pool Canyon Nordenskiold cliff dwelling tour and Inaccessible, Casa Colorado & Casa Blanca House, rarely visited areas of the park.  The tour is scheduled to start at the entrance of Mesa Verde National Park (MVNP) at 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.  The tour involves a drive thru Mesa Verde National Park and across to the Ute Mountain Reservation.  
The hiking time from the parking area to visit the dwellings is approximately four hours hiking and three miles round trip.  Visitors must be physically active for this tour and must provide backpack, drinking water, lunch and wear comfortable gear.

$60.00 Per Person / 25 people maximum

Turning Red Tail Hawk Tour
to Morris 3 Cliff Dwelling

September 1, 2012

The Ute Mountain Tribal Park present to the public the Turning Red Tail Hawk Tour to Morris 3 Cliff Dwelling on September 1, 2012.  The tour of Morris 3 Cliff Dwelling will be offered at 9:00 a.m.  starting at the Tribal Park Visitor Center.
There is physical activity which involves a climb of four ladders and 4.5 mile hike to Morris Cliff Dwelling in Johnson Canyon.  Each tour has a limit of eight to twelve people and takes approximately 4 to 5 hours.  In order to take the tour you must first set a reservation for one of the posted dates.
The starting location is at the Ute Mountain Tribal Park Visitor Center/Museum.  Tour participants must be at the center thirty minutes before 9:00 a.m.

Tour Fee is $35.00 per person
Transportation is on a first come first serve basis.
Each van seats up to 15 people.
Tour area is not handicapped accessible.

* Morris 3 is a Pueblo II-III Ancestral Pueblo site.
* This site was excavated by Earl Morris in 1913.
* This site was stabilized in the year 2008 by Chris Zeller, contract archaeologist for Ute Mountain Tribal Park, and Ute Mountain Tribal Park stabilization crew.
* Morris 3, Archaeological site preservation was funded by Colorado Historical Society, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, and the Mountain Tribal Park.
